On Saturday 14th March, Hip Hop Pop had the incredible opportunity to perform as part of MurWalls Live, a vibrant street art event in Harlow Town Centre. We were invited by Harlow Council and MurWalls to create exclusive performances to accompany the live art taking place throughout the town.
MurWalls Live brought together over 60 street artists, who spent the day transforming the hoardings around the town centre into colourful works of art. From early morning through to the evening, artists worked live on their pieces, giving visitors the chance to watch the murals evolve throughout the day. The event brightened up the area around the old Odeon end of town, turning construction hoardings into a vibrant outdoor gallery.
It was fascinating to watch the artwork develop across the day. Each artist brought their own style, colour palette and energy, creating an inspiring and creative atmosphere that drew crowds of people who stopped to watch the pieces come to life.
Hip Hop Pop at MurWalls Live
Hip Hop Pop were invited to perform as part of MurWalls Live, bringing dance into the mix alongside the street art. Our dancers performed two especially themed pieces — “Water” and “Spray” — which were performed four times throughout the day as audiences gathered around the performance space.
The performances featured 10 dancers from across the Hip Hop Pop community, showcasing the range of talent within the school:
4 dancers from the adult and teaching team: Alisha, Abbie, Amelia and Drew
4 dancers from the advanced teen class: Annie, Darcy, Amelie and Shayla
2 dancers from the mixed age class: Ryan and JJ
It was fantastic to bring together dancers from different classes and age groups to represent Hip Hop Pop and the wider Harlow community. So proud of them all! What a team!
The pieces were choreographed by Hip Hop Pop Company Director Jenny Bater-Sinclair, and also included freestyle sections performed by some of our older teen and adult dancers — adding an extra layer of energy and individuality to the performances.
Creativity, Music and Community

The atmosphere throughout the day was incredibly positive. A live DJ kept the music flowing, while food trucks and crowds of visitors created a lively festival feel. People gathered to watch both the artists painting and the dancers performing, celebrating creativity in all its forms.
Events like this are such a brilliant way to bring art, dance and community together, and we were proud to be part of something that added colour, energy and creativity to the town centre.
Watch This Space
We filmed our performances on the day and have already begun sharing clips across our social media channels and YouTube.
We’re also currently working on two additional videos showcasing the finished artwork and our performances within the space. One of these videos was invited by MurWalls, so keep your eyes peeled across our socials for those coming soon.
A huge thank you to Rory, Emma and Marc from Harlow Council and MurWalls, and all the incredible artists who made the day such a memorable experience.
